Jerome Bettis will be presented at Hall of Fame by brother

PITTSBURGH — Channel 11 News has learned that Jerome Bettis has made his choice for who will present him for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame later this summer.

The Bus tweeted Thursday that he’s excited to have his brother, John Bettis III, as his presenter on Aug. 8 in Canton, Ohio.

No. 36 was said to be choosing between his mother and his brother.

"My brother has been more than willing," Bettis told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "He's told me on a couple occasions he wants to step in in my father's stead and present me in my father's place. He also says, 'We got the same name so it's close.' That's why [I chose] my brother. There is nobody more deserving than my brother."

The evening after Bettis' enshrinement, the Steelers will face the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL Hall of Fame Game at 8 p.m. on Channel 11 WPXI-TV.

Last month, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they'll honor Bettis with a special ring ceremony during the team's Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field.

The Bus rushed for 10,571 yards and 78 touchdowns while wearing Black & Gold -- both second-most in team history.

In 10 seasons with the Steelers, Bettis played in four AFC Championship Games and won Super Bowl XL in 2005.

For his career, Bettis rushed for 13,662 yards (good for sixth on the NFL’s all-time rushing list).

Jerome is one of only eight players in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in eight or more seasons.

Bettis was selected to six Pro Bowls during his career and voted to the first team All-Pro twice.
