Officials said the sinkhole in the eastbound lane of Laketon Road was caused by mine subsidence. It was discovered by road crews last Thursday, and the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation was notified.

Community Relations Coordinator John Poister said that below the pavement, the sinkhole was 10 feet in circumference and 8 feet deep.

The Department of Public Works, working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation, filled the sinkhole with 12 yards of flowable fill grout.
