Ranger was donated to the Sheriff’s Office by DeWayne and Salena King of Mercer County. These AKC bloodhound breeders have donated to the Sheriff’s Office previously. In 2006, the Kings donated K-9 Max, who served until his death last year.
Utilized for tracking individuals and other investigative techniques, Ranger will begin specialized training this summer and is expected to be on patrols in September.
Ranger’s deputy sheriff handler is Jeffrey Belback, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office for three years.
Belback and Ranger will be spending the next week together at the Sheriff’s Office to become acclimated to Belback’s schedule and facilities.
