FBI offering reward for information about Lawrenceville memorial vandalism

PITTSBURGH — A WWI memorial in Lawrenceville was vandalized on Memorial Day with red paint, including a written message and symbols. The FBI is now offering a reward for information leading to the ID, arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible.

The War Memorial at Doughboy Square at the corner of 34th and Butler Street. was sprayed with the message “June 19, 1986 Glory to the day of Heroism!” Also painted were images of a hammer and sickle.

The memorial was put up by Lawrenceville residents in 1921. Workers from Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works were brought in to clean the paint off the monument.
