Fire destroys home in Kennedy Township

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Emergency responders in Kennedy Township have put out flames that destroyed a home Wednesday night.

The fire began around 8 p.m. at a home on Herbst Road.

When Channel 11’s Amy Hudak arrived about an hour later the fire had died down, but firefighters were monitoring for hot spots.

Firefighters said when they got to the home, a woman was able to get out safely. She said she heard a loud bang while she was sleeping and woke up to large flames inside.

According to firefighters, two of the family’s cats did not survive.

Fire officials are investigating what caused the flames to start, but the Red Cross is helping the family who lived there.
