Amazon gearing up, hiring for holiday shopping season

FINDLAY TWP PA — Despite reports of supply chain disruptions and worker shortages across the nation, officials with Amazon report that the mega-retailer is ready to fulfill and deliver your orders in time for the holiday season.

Currently, PIT2, our region’s only customer fulfillment center, is receiving about 50,000 orders a day. “That swells up to about 100,000″ during the peak weeks just before Christmas, said site leader Shawn Troutman.

Troutman spoke with Channel 11 from the Findlay Township facility on Wednesday, where aisle after aisle is packed with products.

Troutman said they are anticipating a busy Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but that they have the supply and staff to meet the demand.

While some retail experts have urged people to order gifts sooner rather than later, Troutman said that Amazon will get purchases even to its procrastinating customers.

“We’re gonna be working up to Christmas Eve to get all of our packages to customers before Christmas,” he said. “It’s up to you, if you want to order now, order later, it’s up to you, we’ll be ready to get it to your doorstep.”

Delivery delays are not anticipated at this time. With that said, the company is looking to hire seasonal workers.

Currently, there are hundreds of openings at several locations. Wages at the PIT2 site begin at $18 an hour, and $3,000 sign-on bonuses are being offered as well. For more information on applying head to amazon.com/apply.

Channel 11 recently brought you the “Trouble in Toyland” report, in which an independent organization warned consumers to be cautious of purchasing counterfeit products online.

We asked Troutman about that. He stated that the company is committed to removing counterfeit products from its site, and took down billions earlier this year. Customers are encouraged to do their research, read reviews, and report any counterfeit suspicions to customer service.
