Beaver Co. Sheriff accused of making threats appears in court

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — A local sheriff was arraigned Wednesday on charges of intimidation and simple assault.

Beaver County Sheriff George David is accused of threatening to cut off the hands of a political campaign worker, as well as to shoot an online blogger.

During the hearing, prosecutors asked for David’s bail conditions to be modified. The Attorney General’s Office wants David to have limited access to the courthouse.

When he was initially charged, David was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims and to limit time spent at the courthouse. According to prosecutors, David did not fully comply with those terms.

The judge Wednesday ordered David not to hold press conferences on county property, in addition to the original conditions of bail.

David’s attorney, Lee Rothman, said, “My client is an elected official, he is the sheriff. He comes to work and he's been limiting himself only from 10 to 1, but he is the sheriff and he has to do his job.”
