Beth Center gives students chance to make up snow days at home

Beth Center School District is one of just a dozen schools across the state trying out a new program that gives schools the opportunity to have school at home for a day to make up for snow days.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, flexible instructional days, also known as flex days, employ non-traditional strategies for an alternative to making up for snow days.
The program has received mixed reviews from parents in the Beth Center School District.
“This new program is going to be great for snow days but for kids who don’t have parents to help them at home, they will probably struggle,” said Chrissy Zellie.
Students, however, were much more receptive to the idea of a school day at home.
“For the seniors it's nice, it’s our way to make up hours for the snow days we did miss,,, and then we won't have to make up as many days,” said Chelsea Snyder, Beth Center senior.
Districts across the state have to prove they can provide the appropriate school work for students to take home and be able to make up outside of the classroom.
