PITTSBURGH — Pitt’s screaming for ice cream and local artisanal maker Millie’s is bringing it next month through its 11th location.

Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream is opening a new retail store, or scoop shop, in Oakland in early January. The site is 207 Oakland Ave., a building owned by the University of Pittsburgh, though not one in which classes are conducted.

The new year also marks the start of more sweet things to come: Millie’s is in talks to add four more scoop shops in the region, co-founder Chad Townsend confirmed to the Business Times on Wednesday.

The young company is poised to launch a record five new stores in 2023. Discussions with potential franchisees are “very far along,” Townsend said.

Sites were not identified but Millie’s website listed several targeted locations including Robinson, Mt. Lebanon, Monroeville, North Huntington, Greensburg and Morgantown, West Virginia.
