Police standoff in Mount Oliver comes to peaceful end

MOUNT OLIVER — A police standoff at an apartment building in Mount Oliver ended peacefully Tuesday morning.

Police were called to an apartment on Giffin Avenue when a woman reported a domestic incident involving her son.

"Officers attempted to make entry and the door was baraccaded shut, " Mount Oliver Police Chief Matt Juzwick told Channel 11 News.

When the man would not come out, officers with automatic weapons and riot gear surrounded the building.

Mount Oliver police said the man did not have a gun, but he did have access to knives. Officers used a robot to gain entry and took him into custody four hours afer the incident began, which was shortly after 8 a.m.

Authorities have not released the man's name, but they did tell Channel 11 News he had no prior arrests.
