Teen accused of filming students in shower kicked out of Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University

PITTSBURGH — A 19-year-old Carnegie Mellon University student has been kicked out of school after allegations surfaced that he recorded other students taking showers.

According to the criminal complaint, Daniel Jorge is suspected of using a phone to record at least 10 men on the sixth floor of Morewood E-Tower.

The criminal complaint said that more than 30 videos were found on Jorge’s phone or external hard drives. He allegedly started recording the videos back in August.

Investigators said Jorge was an "upperclassman mentor" who was an "in house mentor" to students.

According to the complaint, Jorge admitted to the activity, saying he took "lots" of videos of young men and didn't know if any were under the age of 18.

CMU officials told Channel 11 News that following the investigation, Jorge was removed from campus. He is no longer a student.

Channel 11's Courtney Brennan was there Thursday evening as Jorge left arraignment court. He and his attorney did not comment.

Jorge is charged with three counts of invasion of privacy and two counts of criminal attempt-invasion of privacy, according to court documents.

Below is a statement from Abby Simmons, associate director of Media Relations at Carnegie Mellon University:

“Upon learning of the allegations, University Police promptly initiated an investigation and identified and interviewed the student in question, which led to his immediate departure from campus. He is no longer a student at Carnegie Mellon University. Student Affairs staff have notified victims on the status of the investigation, advised them of their rights to file a criminal complaint, and offered support from the university's Counseling and Psychological Services and other staff.”
