Channel 11 News names Oliveira as new news director

PITTSBURGH — – WPXI-TV has named Mike Oliveira as its News Director effective immediately.  The announcement was made by Vice President and General Manager Ray Carter.

In his new position, Oliveira, who held the title of Managing Editor at WPXI since 2010, will supervise the station’s daily news operation and news staff.

“Mike has been with us since 2005 and has had a dramatic impact on our product and people,” said Carter.  “He is driven, but also a team player. He sets a high standard but helps people achieve the goals at hand.  With Mike leading the charge, I am confident we will get where we need to be.”

Oliveira first came to Channel 11 News as its Executive Producer.  Prior to that he was a Producer at WHDH in Boston, and also worked at WTVH in Syracuse, New York where he held multiple roles in the newsroom.  Oliveira is a 2003 graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

“The competition in this market is tough; it makes every day exciting,” said Oliveira.  “I’ll take this team any day.  We have talented people who care so much about the community we all live in.  I work for a great station, with great people, in a great city.  It doesn’t get much better.”

Mike Oliveira replaces Mike Goldrick, who left the station this past fall.
