Channel 11 viewer's tip leads to arrest of one of Allegheny County's Most Wanted

SHARPSBURG, Pa. — A man on Allegheny County's Most Wanted fugitives list for violating his probation after pleading guilty to a robbery in Lawrenceville has been arrested.

Marcus Vaughns, 21, of East Liberty, was taken to the Allegheny County Jail Tuesday morning after a Channel 11 viewer's email tip informed police of his whereabouts in Sharpsburg, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office.

Vaughns had been wanted since December on a criminal bench warrant for the probation violation. He previously pleaded guilty to robbery-threat to inflict immediate bodily injury charges.

In June 2011, Vaughns and an accomplice robbed two men at gunpoint at the corner of 46th and Butler streets in Lawrenceville, police said. The victims had their wallets, cellphones and an iPod taken from them before Vaughns and his accomplice ordered them to walk away slowly, threatening that they would be watching if they tried to stop anyone for help.

Officials said Vaughns was arrested Tuesday without incident at a residence on Clay Street in Sharpsburg.

"Our deputies went to that location and took him into custody without incident. To my knowledge, he made no statements about the incident," said Allegheny County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus.

Kraus told Channel 11 News that since last week, more people have come forward to let them know about wanted fugitives living in their neighborhoods.

"We certainly believe that a lot of these tips are in relation to our coordinated efforts with you guys last Wednesday. We're still getting tips that are very productive,” he said.
