The City of Washington has declared a state of emergency amid strong storms on Saturday.
“The Mayor of the City of Washington has determined that due to the extraordinary rainfall and weather conditions, the residents and general public in the City of Washington are being subjected to potential harm to their person and property,” the emergency proclamation reads in part.
Channel 11 crews saw significant flooding across the city on Saturday, including on West Jefferson Avenue and West Chestnut Street.
The state of emergency allows emergency powers to be in full force for the next five days.
Rain could continue in the city through the evening.
