Community rallies around 3-year-old paralyzed in crash on Rankin Bridge

RANKIN, Pa. — A fundraiser was held Saturday for a 3-year-old girl who was paralyzed after she and her parents were involved in a car accident on the Rankin Bridge in December.

Rankin Police Chief Ryan Wooten helped organize the spaghetti dinner for Sonya Martin, who was in the back seat of the car when it fishtailed on ice and struck another car. She was paralyzed from the neck down and can only breathe on a ventilator.

Sonya's parents believe their daughter is alive because Wooten gave her life-saving CPR at the scene of the crash.

Saturday's dinner at the Rankin Croatian Home was attended by many.

"Good doesn't begin to describe the feeling that comes with all of this," said Devon Martin, Sonya's father.
