Crews begin cleaning up tornado damage in Ligonier

LIGONIER, Pa. — Crews have begun cleaning up damage left behind by a tornadoes that touched down in Ligonier Friday.

Channel 11 camera crews found cleanup workers clearing trees and debris from power lines on Route 711 Saturday morning.

Officials said 95% of the damage involved downed trees and all the roads in the area are now opened.

Witnesses told WPXI reporter Dave Bondy they saw the clouds spin before the wind picked up and people were being blown around inside Cool Springs Express Restaurant.

The National Weather Service in Moon said an emergency manager reported a tornado touched down on Route 711 at 5:34 p.m Friday.

Officials told WPXI reporter Dave Bondy residents in Ligonier should beware of bad contractors and scam artists offering repairs because the same thing happened to people after a tornado in Hempfield.
