Emaciated dog found left to die in garbage can in New Stanton

NEW STANTON, Pa. — An emaciated dog was found left to die in a garbage can in New Stanton.

Garbage collectors found the collie-lab mix Thursday while moving garbage.

Neighbors told officials the owner moved from New Stanton to Texas on Monday.

Humane agents said the condition of the dog is so disturbing they believe the dog could have been in the garbage can much longer.

"It's ridiculous.  I hate to say it, but it would have been better if they let the dog loose at least it could have tried to get something to eat," said agent Jane Dillon.

The dog had a microchip, so agents passed the information on to police.

Charges are expected to be filed.
