According to police, James Ulizio forged almost $2,000 in checks when he was in charge of the Midland Fire Department.
Authorities said Ulizio is also accused of using $12,000 of department money to pay off his cellphone and gas bills over a five-year period.
According to the criminal complaint, the thefts took place between February 2008 and January 2013.
“It’s not fair to the taxpayers,” said Tim Bronson, who works in Midland.
“He should be punished.  He shouldn’t have done it,” said Beaver County resident Bill LeBrezre.
