Former NFL player, Pittsburgh native gives back to community through non-profit

PITTSBURGH — Woodland Hills High School graduate and Former Cincinnati Bengals Linebacker Chris Edmonds gives back year round through his non-profit called Athletic Trauma Unit.

“I grew up in this community so it’s like me coming back from playing football for like this community gave me a lot as far as I can to support me football-wise,” Edmonds said. “I’ve been on both sides before. I’ve been to the point where me and my mom didn’t have much, and my mom is also a single mom and so we’ve been at a point where we didn’t have Christmas gifts. It brings me joy to be able to give back and do it for the right reason.”

Edmonds says for the past seven years; his nonprofit has been focused on helping people and kids in Swissvale, Braddock, and Rankin. He tells Channel 11 they host a Turkey giveaway for Thanksgiving, a toy giveaway for Christmas. And he teaches a free group workout class three times a week.

In addition to giving back through his non-profit, Edmonds also coaches football at Woodland Hills High School.
