WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — The medical examiner has identified the Greater Latrobe High School student who died in a crash in Westmoreland County Wednesday night.
Police said 15-year-old Sarah David was in the back seat of a car when the driver lost control attempting to make a left turn on Linn Run Road in Cook Township.
Investigators said the vehicle went off the road, flipped several times and hit trees and a utility pole before stopping.
Officials said three other people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident and taken to a nearby hospital. Their names and conditions have not been released.
David, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner said she died of blunt-force trauma to the head, chest and abdomen.
David, described by family members as a free spirit, was a digital-media student at the Eastern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center.
“She was a very nice young lady. She was very happy and always friendly and smiling. She was well-liked by many of the students,” Greater Latrobe Senior High School Principal Steven LoCascio said. “She was in digital media over there -- that was her interest.”
David’s family said they want to know how the driver lost control. They said they’re hoping for more information from police and justice for their loved one.
“Anytime somebody that age passes, whatever the circumstances, it’s very difficult,” LoCascio said.
LoCascio said grief counselors were made available for students at the high school and the career and technology center.
