Horse dies after car crashes into buggy in Wilmington Township, police say

MERCER COUNTY, Pa. — A horse has died after a car crashed into a buggy in Mercer County on Thursday morning.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash took place on Cowden Road in Wilmington Township at 7 a.m.

The driver of a Honda Civic was traveling east behind a horse drawn buggy.

Police said the Honda had a frosted windshield and the driver was exceeding the posted speed limit. The car collided with the back of the buggy.

The driver of the buggy was thrown off, and sustained minor injuries..

The Honda traveled off the north side of the roadway before the car came to a stop. The driver of the Honda was not injured.

The horse pulling the buggy suffered serious injuries and was put down at the scene.
