Hundreds gather in Oakland, pray for peace for Ukraine

PITTSBURGH — Hundreds of people gathered today in Oakland to pray for peace with the Ukrainian community across the Pittsburgh area.

The event took place at St. Paul Cathedral, right near the University of Pittsburgh.

People representing all different faiths came together to pray.

Organizers said it’s hard to watch the war in Ukraine from afar, and that they’re praying for peace every day.

“Pray for peace, pray for the soldiers on both sides,” Ukrainian Orthodox Priest Rev. Robert Popichak said. “Pray for the relatives of the people who are left in villages and towns who have no defense, and the people of Russia, who are also suffering as their sons and daughters go off to war.

This was the biggest interfaith gathering in Pittsburgh since Russia invaded Ukraine more than a week ago.
