CANONSBURG, Pa. — School officials and authorities said there will be an increased police presence at Canon-McMillan High School Friday after a student allegedly made a gun threat.

Canon-McMillan School District Public Relations Specialist Amanda Gillooly released the following statement Thursday night:
"The district is aware of the alleged threat made by a high school student. The administration in cooperation with law enforcement have investigated the matter and taken appropriate action.
"Although concerns of danger have been ruled out, a strong police presence will be provided at the high school tomorrow to ease any anxiety one would have regarding this matter.
"The district appreciates the number of people who reached out to share information and give warning of the potential threat."
Canon-McMillan High School Principal David Helinski also released a statement Thursday night, assuring that the school will be safe Friday.
“The alleged threat has been addressed and the student in question is being dealt with by authorities. School will be safe as always tomorrow and NSPD will be out in force in the AM to ease the concerns created by this unfortunate incident. The student involved if proven guilty will be suspended and charged by authorities," Helinski said.
Additionally, North Strabane Township Police Chief Brian D. Hughes posted a statement on the police department's Facebook page acknowledging that he had been notified of the alleged threat.

“There is an active ongoing investigation to assure this incident is properly investigated and that the threat is eliminated,” Hughes wrote.
He went on the write that based on information he received, the incident involves only one student who has already been identified.
No additional details were released Thursday evening.
