Injured Siberian husky Barney will soon be ready for adoption

PITTSBURGH — Veterinarians at the Western PA Humane Society have determined that Barney, the Siberian husky whose owner severely abused him, is now medically stable and ready to take the next step towards adoption readiness.

Over the past few weeks, the Western PA Humane Society has received nearly 200 requests to adopt Barney.

As an animal welfare organization, their overarching goal is to identify a permanent home for Barney with a suitable family that is willing and able to provide the type of care and training required.

Siberian huskies are very intelligent, highly energetic dogs who are easily bored, and will get into mischief without proper obedience training and sufficient exercise. For that reason, it is imperative that a prospective husky owner be thoroughly screened. After careful assessment, the shelter determined that, instead of handling the adoption process themselves, it would be in the dog's best interest to have breed experts coordinate it.

The Western PA Humane Society transferred Barney to a local Siberian husky rescue to manage his adoption interview process.   After a 30-day medical and behavioral evaluation period, the rescue will conduct interviews.
