Although this year’s “IUPatty’s” event was calmer than last year’s event, arrests were made.
School officials said at least 44 people were arrested and one sexual assault was reported. However, there were no major incidents, a big change from last year when a video posted to YouTube showed a massive brawl on the street in the middle of the day.
Last year’s festivities prompted local officials to make changes for this year, changes that have resulted in making sure the partying stays under control.
School officials thanked police and the community for stepping up to maintain order during the IUPatty’s festivities.
“We’re glad to have you come here, but if you come here, please act responsibly,” said Michelle Fryling, a spokesperson for the university. “This is our community, this is our university and we want a good, positive reputation -- the reputation that we deserve.”
School officials also thanked students for taking to social media to urge other students to act responsibly during the weekend.
