Kennywood Park begins beer sales

Kennywood hosts Cheerleading Day every year

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Pittsburgh's Kennywood Park has a new attraction: beer.

Beers sales started last weekend at the park in West Mifflin. The historic amusement park earned approval for a liquor license transfer in August and opened its beer garden in time for the end of the summer season.

A state lawmaker had opposed the license transfer out of concern it would ruin the park's family-friendly feel but Kennywood agreed to limit customers to two beers each and restrict sales to a single area.

A park spokesman tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review employees completed a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board training program before the sales started.

The park traces its history to 1898 and still operates two rollercoasters that date to the 1920s.
