PITTSBURGH — US Airways will fly its last plane out of Pittsburgh Sunday, and with it will go 650 jobs in Moon Township.
It was only eight years ago when US Airways opened a flight operations center in Moon, but that facility will close soon and about half of the 650 workers there will be moved to a new facility in Texas.

The airline is closing its Pittsburgh operations as part of its merger with American Airlines, as American plans to eliminate the US Airways brand.
The news of the closing broke more than a year ago, and an airline representative told Channel 11 at the time that the closure was a “necessary step on our mission to make the new Americans the world’s best airline.”
Unfortunately for the airline, that wasn’t a good enough explanation for one local person.
Donna Frazier works at Selma’s Texas Barbeque in Moon Township near the closing operations center.
She said the center closing isn’t just bad for the workers there, but also for surrounding businesses.
“That hurts,” she said. “And not only for our restaurant but even the hotels and other businesses around the area.”
About 350 workers will relocate to the Texas facility while the rest will be forced to find new jobs locally.
“That’s not fair,” Frazier said. “That’s not.”
