UPMC doctor killed in Pine Township crash; status of second victim unknown

PINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A local doctor was killed in a fatal crash in Pine Township.

Dr. Douglas Rockacy, 47, from Wexford was killed in a crash on the 300 block of Wexford Bayne Road early Saturday.

Police say that Rockacy and another person were traveling in a Tesla that was going down hill on the road when it hit a mailbox, went airborne and then landed, overturning into a creek in nearby woods.

It took over two hours for a towing company to remove the car from the woods. Crews had to disable the car before removing the electric vehicle from the creek, to avoid electrocution.

UPMC Mercy confirmed to Channel 11 that Rockacy was a physician at that hospital. They offered no further comment out of respect for his family’s privacy.

According to Northern Regional police chief John Sicilia, speed was a contributing factor of the crash, but investigators are still looking at other factors.

Rockacy was a passenger at the time of the accident. The driver was taken to UPMC Presbyterian and is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing.
