PITTSBURGH — Several local churches are giving parishioners a quick and easy way to receive their ashes this Ash Wednesday.
Faith Lutheran Church on Lincoln Way in White Oak opened drive-through services Wednesday morning.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season for Christians around the world.
Drive-through ashes are also available in a number of other locations, including:
Downtown - Bishop Dorsey McConnell and priests from Trinity Cathedral will distribute ashes in Market Square from 1-2 p.m.
East End - The clergy of Calvary Episcopal Church will offer ashes during the noon lunch hour at three locations: the rector, the Rev. Jonathon Jensen, will be outside the church, 315 Shady Avenue. Other priests from Calvary will be on Walnut Street on Highland Avenue.
Sharpsburg - The Rev. Tom Parkinson and Rev. Ben Phipps, pastors of Faith United Methodist Church in Fox Chapel, will distribute ashes along the business corridor from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
South Hills - The Rev. Lou Hays, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, will distribute ashes on Washington Road near the entrance to the Mt. Lebanon "T" station, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
