Man accused of stabbing ex-girlfriend to death in Carnegie

None — CARNEGIE, Pa. -- A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in Carnegie was arrested early Wednesday morning.

Investigators said the stabbing happened at a home on Railroad Avenue.

According to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE, the victim was identified as Melissa Bowers.

"It appears to be a domestic disturbance. A domestic dispute turned violent," said Carnegie police Chief Jeffrey Harbin.

A neighbor told Channel 11's Brandon Hudson that Jeffrey Maloy, of Ambridge, came to his home and told him that he had killed his girlfriend and needed help.

"He asked me what he should do. I said, 'You do the right thing. Call authorities. You don't run from this,'" the neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said.

Police said Maloy then called 911 and he was arrested a short time later.

"It's sad that this happened today. My heart goes out to the family and her children," the neighbor said.

Authorities said they are trying to determine if Maloy was drunk at the time of the crime.
