Death of man brutally attacked in McKees Rocks in May ruled homicide

McKEES ROCKS, Pa. — The family of a man who was brutally attacked in McKees Rocks in May said the man died Saturday.

David Poole, 44, was attacked by a group of three men while walking home with a friend near West Park, according to his sister, Tina Ernst.

Ernst said her brother was hit in the head with an object and taken to the ground, cracking his skull.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office told Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic the cause of Poole's death was blunt force trauma to the head, and the manner of death was homicide.

“We had hopes that he would come out of this. He would wiggle his foot when we'd tell him and then the seizures took over, and as the doctors explained to us, his brain started to short circuit,” Ernst said.

Poole, who had four children and one stepchild, was on life support late last month.

Poole was robbed for $60 and his cellphone, and his friend’s purse was also stolen.

An eyewitness gave a vague description of the attackers, saying one individual was tall with a large afro and the others were shorter. All three men were described as being in their 20s.

Poole’s brother-in-law said that he hopes authorities will move forward more aggressively now that it is a murder case.

“Somebody needs to come forward and tell us what they know, because I know there's someone out there who knows something,” Ernst said.

Poole’s funeral will be held Tuesday in McKees Rocks, and he will be buried Wednesday.
