Teen drives self to UPMC Mercy Hospital with several gunshot wounds

PITTSBURGH — Police are investigating after a teenager drove himself to UPMC Mercy Hospital Monday with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the 17-year-old showed up at the hospital about 1:30 p.m. with gunshot wounds in the stomach and legs and was immediately rushed into surgery.

Police said the teen was shot three times while walking to his house in the 300 block of Araballa Street in the city’s Knoxville neighborhood, but many more shots were fired at him.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said, “I was up in my bedroom watching TV and I heard a single shot followed by five rapid shots, and by the time I got outside there was chaos and police cars in the street.”

A gold Chevrolet Impala was seen driving toward Grimes Street after the shooting.

Police have not identified any suspects.
