Man shot 4 times during pick-up basketball game in McKeesport

McKEESPORT, Pa. — Authorities are investigating after several shots were fired during a basketball game at a McKeesport housing complex Sunday afternoon.

According to police, a man was shot four times Sunday afternoon while he was playing basketball at Crawford Village in McKeesport. The victim’s name has not been released, but officials confirmed he’s in critical condition.

Witnesses told Channel 11 News that the area was filled with children just moments before the shooting.

One person said a man near the courts sensed that something bad was about to happen and sent all the children away.

“Most of the time it happens when our kids are asleep. But, at this point, our kids were outside playing. So I thank him from the bottom of my heart because he grabbed my son and sent him inside,” an anonymous parent said.

The man told Channel 11 News that he knew he had to act quickly.

“I gathered up all the kids and put them in the house. Everything went down as I was getting them in the house,” the man said.

Investigators said by time the police showed up at the scene, the shooter or shooters had fled. So far, no arrests have been made.

Channel 11’s Dave Bondy reported that this is the same neighborhood where a shooting occurred just four days earlier.

On Wednesday, jitney driver John Haas was fatally shot at Crawford Village.
