Man suffers broken skull, child hurt in Donegal motorcycle crash

DONEGAL, Pa. — A motorcycle crash severely injured two people, including a child, Thursday night.

State police said the accident happened on Interstate 70 in Donegal, Washington County.

Investigators said the motorcycle hit a 6 by 6 piece of wood and both people were thrown off the bike. The bike traveled more than 300 feet before it stopped on the median.

James Vanvolkinburg, of Washington, was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with a broken skull.

A 12-year-old passenger was taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh with a broken leg.

Police are still trying to figure out where the piece of wood came from.
