Mayview Road in South Fayette under ‘emergency repair’

SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — If you travel down Mayview Road in South Fayette Township, the scenic hills bring you to a brand-new neighborhood.

But all the construction has greatly impacted the road in and out of the complex.

“About a year ago, because of the development, we had a slide a little bit down the road; and just recently a few days ago we found a large crack and it looks like the slide has grown further to the north,” said Cheryl Moon-Sirianni, Executive Director with PennDOT’s District 11.

That crack is growing by the day and has half the road shut down to traffic. While PennDOT is asking the developer to step up and fix the issue.

“We need to have them made quickly because we have another project that is occurring at Mayview and Boyce in the next couple months,” Sirianni said.

If that project starts on time and the crack grows to shut down the road completely, the homes in the middle will have no way out.

“There are detours to get to each of the ends, but the problem is the middle part. We can’t start the Mayview Boyce project until this is done because there just would be no way for the middle people to get out. That’s the real concern and sense of urgency,” Sirianni said.

So, one project could get pushed back and PennDOT may have to front the costs to get Mayview repairs done if the developer doesn’t get back to them quickly.

Right now, it’s a waiting game to see when those repairs will start with PennDOT or the developer. Leaders said there must be an investigation into the problem first before any construction starts.
