Med-Van driver accused of having sex with teen he was taking to hospital

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — A Med-Van Transport driver is accused of having sex with a teenager whom he was taking to a treatment center in Upper St. Clair, police said.

According to authorities, Scott Weimer, 26, was taking the teenage girl from Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown to Southwood Hospital in Upper St. Clair on a voluntary mental health commitment.

Investigators said they found the van that he was driving parked on the side of Washington Road around 4:30 a.m. Monday. An officer stopped to see if the driver needed help and witnessed Weimer and the victim putting on their clothes, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said the teen, who is in the custody of Cambria County Children and Youth Services, seemed "lethargic" and "unable to care for herself.” She was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

According to investigators, Weimer asked if “he would be in trouble if he had sex with her in the van.”

In 2013, Weimer was charged with simple assault, criminal trespassing, ethnic intimidation and harassment in Blair County.

He completed an accelerated rehabilitative program, but it is not clear if Med-Van Transport knew about the charges.

When asked why Weimer was allowed to transport the girl alone, a spokesperson for Med-Van Transport declined to comment.

Rules and regulations for medical transportation vans in Pennsylvania say that drivers should have criminal-history clearances.

The girl lived in a homeless shelter, but the director of the shelter said the choice to transport her would have been made by Conemaugh Hospital.

"Everybody needs a voice. Everybody needs to share their experience and get the help and support they need. And we all need to say this is wrong, it shouldn't happen and we're not going to let it happen anymore," Julie Evans, with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, said.

Weimer is facing 11 charges, including statutory sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault.

He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail with bail set at $500,000.

A separate investigation is now underway into the company Weimer was driving for when the alleged assault occurred.

The Public Utility Commission of Pennsylvania is investigating LJL Trucking Inc. The company owns the Med-Van Transport vehicle Weimer was driving Monday morning.

Channel 11 learned that LJL Trucking got its certificate to operate these kinds of vans in October 1996.

The PUC said there have been three complaints filed against the company, but all the complaints were technical in nature and referred to insurance carrier changes.
