PITTSBURGH — A pair of very rare moths are on exhibit at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and only for a limited time, as the insects only live for seven days.
According to staff at Phipps, the luna moth (Actias luna) doesn’t have a mouth, so the insect can never eat. For that reason, the moths have an extremely short life-span.

The moths’ yellow wings with a purple outline are eye-catching, but staff said you’ll want to visit sooner rather than later.
“Once they are out of the case, they will be in with the other butterflies in the butterfly forest and harder to find,” said Connie George, Phipps’ director of marketing and communications.
The two moths hatched Friday at the conservatory and will be on exhibit this weekend.
