KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The driver who hit and killed a man in Kennedy Township early Friday is still on the run.
Police say an officer discovered 72-year-old Wayne McGinley in the road. He died at the hospital shortly after he arrived.
Channel 11’s Nick Papantonis spoke to his neighbors, who said he was a common sight in the community.
Many told us they’d seen McGinley just the day before, walking as he always did.
They’re hoping the driver faces charges.
“I cried. Like I said, Mr. Wayne. ... I’m sad. Sad about that,” one neighbor said.
Neighbors and community members are looking for answers after the crash, which happened around 12:15 a.m. on Pine Hollow Road.
Police say the driver kept going.
McGinley was known to show up at Mickey’s Bar, which is located right next to the crash scene.
Workers at Mickey’s tell us McGinley would order a Diet Coke, and patrons said he’d show up hours before the bar opened.
Neighbors say they would see him walking the two miles from home every day.
“I’m not sure where he was walking to. ... Up and down the streets.”
Neighbors told us it was unusual for McGinley to be out so late at night.
His death has put attention on the state of the road, which has no sidewalks or streetlights.
“It’s dark, it’s dangerous,” one neighbor said.
Police have not yet released a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
