New Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus schedule changes put to test

PITTSBURGH — Today is the first workday that the Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus schedule changes were put to the test.

Buses made their way up and down Fifth Avenue in Oakland picking up and dropping off riders.

Many of them are Pitt students and university employees — who told Channel 11 they didn’t realize there were any schedule adjustments.

The changes went into effect Sunday for more than 25 routes.

This is the first of three adjustments that will be made during the year. PRT says the changes are to improve reliability.

The adjustments mean some riders must change buses. Service is now reduced on some routes based on current ridership.

Some riders told Channel 11 they didn’t experience any long wait times at the bus stop today. That was not the case Sunday, when one rider on the North side said they were waiting at the bus stop for an hour.

PRT got the word out about the service adjustments on Twitter, advising riders to check their bus schedules.

You can see the full list of service adjustments on the PRT website.
