PITTSBURGH — The owners of Oakland’s Conflict Kitchen said they will reopen Wednesday after being closed for several days.
The closing was prompted by death threats found in a letter written to the restaurant.
According to a Facebook post written Tuesday, the owners have consulted with law enforcement officials who have said it’s safe to reopen their doors.
The Facebook message states, “After consultation with local law enforcement agencies, Conflict Kitchen will reopen Wednesday, November 12 and continue operating under our regular business hours from 11am-6pm, 7 days a week. We greatly appreciate all of the incredible support that we have received during our closure, and we are eager to reopen our Palestinian iteration. The investigation on the threat that we received is ongoing.
The kitchen recently served Palestinian food.
"We support the Conflict Kitchen's right to free speech and whatever country they decide to take on, and whatever issues they decide to take on, we support them because it's their right," said Hazeel Salameh of Students for Justice in Palestine.
Pittsburgh police aren't saying what the threat implied, but they have a full-scale investigation underway.
Conflict Kitchen was featured earlier this year in a Channel 11 News Proud to be from Pittsburgh report.
