Person hit by train in South Side

PITTSBURGH — A person was hit by a train on the South Side Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Witnesses told police that the train conductor blew his horn, but the man didn’t move from the tracks.

“He just stood there. I don’t know what he was thinking. He literally just stood there. His friends were screaming and he stood there. The train ended up hitting him,” witness Debbie Casne said.

Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski reported the man was taken to UPMC Mercey Hospital. His name and condition haven’t been released.

Investigators haven’t said if they think this was an attempted suicide or an accident.
