PITTSBURGH — Pitt Athletics is teaming up with Key Bank to encourage young students to read.
Together, they kicked off the ‘Reading in the Classroom’ initiative on Friday.
Pitt student-athletes from football, women’s lacrosse, softball, and soccer spent the day reading to students at Sacred Heart’s elementary school in Shadyside.
“Just to hear that I’m still reading at my old age..if they call me ‘unc’ or whatever, it allows them to follow in the footsteps and just have someone to look up to and to keep doing it for themselves,” running back Justin Cook said.
Students also received free books, bookmarks, and bags to encourage their love of reading.
