PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Animal Control officers rescued a coyote that was stuck in an alley.
Information shared by Pittsburgh Public Safety on Thursday said officers were called to Atwood Street in Oakland for reports of a coyote wedged between two walls in an alley.
It took several hours, but officers were able to free the animal safely and relocate it to a wooded area.
Officials say this incident is an important reminder to residents.
“Coyotes can be found in urban environments and throughout Pittsburgh neighborhoods, suburbs and parks. They are naturally active during the daylight hours, particularly at dawn and dusk,” an official said.
Anyone who encounters a coyote should:
- Stay visible and make yourself look as large as possible.
- Make plenty of noise to encourage it to move away.
- Never run from a coyote; running can trigger its instinct to chase.
Officials ask residents to call Animal Care and Control at 412-255-2036 if they come across an injured animal or one in distress. In the case of an emergency, call 412-255-2935.
