PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh councilperson said mailers sent throughout the South Side are spreading misinformation.
The mailers sent out last week claim to be from “the South Side NID Expansion Committee” and say residents will have to pay into a fund for the proposed South Side Neighborhood Improvement Plan.
However, Councilman Bob Charland stated that the proposal would not require homeowners to pay anything.
The proposal under consideration would create a neighborhood improvement district to fund upgrades along East Carson Street.
The identities of the individuals behind the mailers, as well as the total number of residents who received them, have not been established.
“The NID Expansion Committee is not a real organization; if you look up the address, it’s the UPS on East Carson Street,” Charland said. “We’re trying our best to hound them down, but we don’t know who all received them,” Charland said.
City Council is scheduled to host its second public hearing on the proposal on Thursday.
