PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh has delayed the enforcement of the single-use plastic bag ban.
City officials announced the enforcement date is delayed from April 14 to Oct. 14 “to help ensure a successful rollout.”
Businesses are required to post notices of the ban 90 days before the effective date.
New additions to the ban legislations includes the requirement that the city maintains a webpage with information about the ban and that the public works department maintains a list of distributors of compliant paper and reusable bags. The city is also creating a three-step sanction for inspectors to issue written warnings for violations followed by escalating fines.
Councilperson Erika Strassburger of District 8 originally introduced the legislation in November 2021.
