BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (AP) — The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is merging four parishes near its bishop's hometown northwest of the city.
Bishop David Zubik is from Ambridge, a few miles from the four Beaver County parishes that will merge to form Saint Monica Parish on July 15.
The parishes to be merged are Christ the Divine Teacher in Chippewa Township; Divine Mercy and Saint Philomena in neighboring Beaver Falls; and Saint Rose of Lima in Darlington.
The four parishes will now have one school named Divine Mercy Academy.
The Rev. Kim Schreck, who now pastors Christ the Divine Teacher and Saint Rose parishes, will remain as pastor of the combined parish.
The parishes, like others in many parts of the diocese, have been suffering from declining enrollment.
