SHARON, Pa. — Police announced Saturday they are charging a woman in the shooting death of her husband in a parking lot near Sharon Regional Hospital last weekend.
It took nearly a week to sort through the details of the case, but Sharon police said during a news conference that their investigation determined Amy Emmett shot her husband William three times before turning the gun on herself.

William Emmett, 45, who was an administrative director of the emergency room at the hospital, died after the incident while his wife still remains hospitalized in Youngstown, Oh.
Police announced during the news conference that Amy Emmett is now charged with first and third degree murder.
A first degree murder conviction could include the death penalty, while a conviction for the third degree murder charge could carry a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. on July 26 in a parking lot near the hospital when the pair started arguing.
The pair fought over control of a handgun and each suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
William Emmett was shot three times – once in the neck and twice in the chest - while Amy Emmett shot herself twice in the torso, according to police.
“We learned later that Amy Emmett actually shot William Emmett and then shot herself,” said Sharon police Chief Gerry Smith. “Amy shot herself after William was already on the ground.”
Neither the chief nor the district attorney would answer questions about the couple’s relationship or previous police calls to their Greenville home, but the chief said there hadn’t been any trouble between the two previously at the hospital.
“The Sharon Police Department has no history with either one of these two,” he said.
Amy Emmett is currently listed as being in stable condition at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.
The chief said she will be allowed to recover before being formally arraigned.
The couple has three children.
