PITTSBURGH — Channel 11's Renee Kaminski reported Thursday that a man has confessed to killing a well-known McKees Rocks activist, after police initially arrested and charged another man in the crime.
According to the criminal complaint, Londele Cox told police that he had known Isaiah Dent for six months and was purchasing marijuana from him when he killed him.
Police said Cox visited Dent at his McKees Rocks home to purchase the drug on Jan. 25 –- two days before Dent's body was found in his bathroom.
Cox told investigators that Dent began asking him about an incident involving a sexual assault when he was on a wrestling team in college. Cox told police Dent also began speculating on "how good" he would look in a wrestling uniform.
The criminal complaint stated that Cox then said Dent told him he didn't "have to buy weed. You can do other things, if you know what I mean."
Cox told police at that point, "he snapped" and began assaulting Dent in the living room of the apartment and proceeded to beat him in the hallway outside of the bathroom.
Cox said once inside the bathroom, he grabbed a glass cube and struck Dent. The criminal complaint said that Cox also grabbed a towel rack and struck Dent several times.
He told police that he took the towel bar from the home and fled – throwing the towel bar into the river nearby. Investigators said Cox kept Dent's cell phone and sold some of his jewelry at a pawn shop in downtown Pittsburgh.
"We were able to use the victim’s cell phone to determine Londele was involved in Mr. Dent’s death," Lt. Andy Schurman said.
Cox is facing homicide, robbery and tampering with evidence charges.
Police said Dent died of blunt force trauma to the head. He was found in his Hayes Manorh home after family members grew concerned after they didn't hear from him.
Investigators said charges against Sean Overton, who was initially charged, have been withdrawn.
