JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police in Jackson Township said they arrested a pregnant woman and her boyfriend Tuesday after officers discovered they were under the influence of drugs with a 2-year-old in the car.
Investigators said they arrested Emily Stallard, 30, and Andrew McClellan, 29, on charges of child endangerment and felony drug charges.
According to the police report, Stallard and McClellan were passengers in the car, along with their young son.
The driver, David London, was pulled over on Little Creek Road for a broken taillight and allowed officers to search the vehicle.
Upon the search, officers quickly discovered suspected heroin, marijuana, needles and other drug paraphernalia in the car. Police said they also found a sandwich bag with marijuana lying on top of Stallard's purse in the back seat. Inside the purse police said they found a needle, spoon and unmarked prescription pill bottle.
The criminal complaint stated that inside the bottle were several rocks of heroin.
Police said Stallard showed visible signs of impairment. The police report also stated that London told officers that he saw her "inject a substance on their way back from Beaver Falls."
"I've seen parents with young kids in the car that late at night with drugs. I can't say that I've seen one that's eight months pregnant, injecting herself with heroin," Jackson Township Police Chief Terry Seilhamer said.
Michael Simpson told Channel 11 News that the traffic stop happened so close to his apartment, he could hear everything.
“I heard the officer say, ‘They have needles,’” Simpson said. “I heard a bunch of sirens going off, then I heard a bunch of screaming and yelling.”
The couple is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
The child in the car was not hurt and is now in the custody of family members, police said.
London was charged for the broken taillight and was also charged with possessing a prohibited weapon – a commando-style knife.
