Report: Second Avenue Commons has ‘served thousands’ in first six months of operations

It has been six months since the Second Avenue Commons, a facility containing a shelter for those experiencing homelessness, a free health clinic and other resources, opened downtown.

The facility, which had been in the works for years and was made possible through millions of dollars’ worth of investment from UPMC, PNC Financial Services Group, Highmark and other corporate entities, is located at 700 Second Ave., and its daily operations are overseen by local nonprofit Pittsburgh Mercy.
